Environmental Film Night Hosted by Patagonia

 

The annual and eagerly anticipated Environmental Film Night, hosted by Patagonia, is back as the only Tailgate Talk in November. This compelling and moving evening will include both a screening of Patagonia’s “Artifishal” as well as local film maker Mitch Dion’s “The Sacramento, At Current Speed.”

Alpenglow Sports is excited to launch the Fall 2019 Tailgate Talks for the greater Lake Tahoe region. The Tailgate Talk line up is one of the biggest to date with a total of six shows in 2019 from October through December. All shows are free with beverage offerings from Sufferfest and Sierra Nevada. 100% of all beverage sales will benefit local non-profit Gateway Mountain Center.

 

The Tailgate Talks have become a cherished tradition at Alpenglow Sports over the past 11 years, with the intention to bring the greater North Lake Tahoe community together to learn about and celebrate the various aspects of the mountains that we all love, at no cost. Bringing in a series of speakers and athletes passionate about their respective sports, the environment, and the greater community, the Tailgate Talks are the ultimate way to come together and connect with our neighbors. The World’s Most Coveted Line

 

Famed ski mountaineer, Jim Morrison, recounts his recent mountaineering and skiing adventures, including climbing Lhotse with fellow North Face athlete, Hilaree Nelson. The fourth highest mountain in the world, Lhotse reaches a height of 27,940-feet at its peak, and after reaching the summit, Morrison and Nelson became the first people to ever ski the coveted 7,000-foot Lhotse Couloir.

 

Admission for all Winter Speaker Series shows is free of charge and all ages are welcome. Early arrival is encouraged for good seating, we ask that all dogs remain at home. Raffle tickets and beverages will be available for purchase, with 100% of proceeds benefitting the specified local non-profit. Sierra Nevada Brewery will be on hand with a tasting tent.

 

Established in 2006, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series is a free event designed to motivate, inspire and educate. The Winter Speaker Series is an annual five-part series running from November through February. Each show packs the house with over 600 attendees. Since its inception, the Winter Speaker Series has raised over $300,000 for various non-profit groups within the Lake Tahoe region. While each show is free, Alpenglow Sports raffles off product donated by the sponsors of each athlete and gives 100% of bar proceeds generated at each show to the evening’s associated non-profit.

Alpenglow’s accomplished in-store photographer, Scott Rokis talks about, “When the Process Becomes the Plan.” Outlining the risky and exciting story of changing the trajectory of his corporate career to becoming a nomadic adventure photographer living on the road in a van.

Skiing the Seven Summits

 

The first person to ski the highest peak on every continent, Kit DesLauriers shares her personal accounts brimming with insights on risk, mindset, partnerships and the moments that make life worthwhile. Kit has been a member of The North Face Global Athlete Team since 2005. National Geographic named her Adventurer of the Year and Outside Magazine named her one of the women who has made the biggest impact on our world.

The Lake Tahoe Backcountry Demo Event is back for it’s fourteenth year in Lake Tahoe. Join us at Alpine Meadows for the largest, and most well-known backcountry demo event in North America. 

Backcountry Magazine's Backcounty Basecamp Tour will be at the two-day event as they travel throughout the country spreading safety and stoke. Join the editors of Backcountry Magazine, alongside guides, forecasters, AIARE instructors and gear experts for a resort-based showcase of all things backcountry—including demos, avalanche education, guided tours and a huge raffle.

The event is free, but participants must possess a valid lift ticket or season pass purchased from Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley USA, along with a driver’s license and credit card for deposit to demo equipment.

K2 no O2: The One that Should Have Gotten Away

 

Owner and founder of Alpenglow Expeditions, Adrain Ballinger, details his most recent expedition to K2, the second highest and arguably most treacherous mountain in the world. Requiring incredible technical skill and mental fortitude, Ballinger will discuss how he and his team had to fight extra hard to keep morale up, in order to reach their goal…. all without supplemental oxygen.

Mountain Festival Kick Off Party with Mountain Film

Help us kick-off Mountain Festival with the critically-acclaimed Mountainfilm Festival. Mountainfilm uses the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. The North Lake Tahoe screening of this global phenomenon is made possible through the generosity of Flylow.

Mountainfilm is a documentary film festival that showcases nonfiction stories about environmental, cultural, climbing, political and social justice issues that matter. Mountainfilm travels throughout the world with a selection of current and best-loved adventure films from their annual flagship festival in Telluride, Colorado. Through Mountainfilm on Tour, the organization touches the lives of over 50,000 people every year and visits more than 100 locations on six continents. It's their way of extending the reach of the annual festival and helping filmmakers’ inspiring content be seen by audiences across the globe.

 

Doors open at 5:45pm, show begins at 7pm.

A generous raffle will benefit the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance.

Alpenglow Sports Mountain Festival

This nine-day festival in North Lake Tahoe, California is a celebration of human-powered mountain sports, events, clinics, equipment demonstrations, critically acclaimed film and more. The Alpenglow Mountain Festival showcases over 90 individual events from February 15-23, 2020 and is almost entirely free. 

Geared toward beginner and intermediate winter recreation enthusiasts, the Alpenglow Mountain Festival showcases some of the best activities Lake Tahoe has to offer – backcountry skiing and splitboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, natural history, yoga, live music, educational workshops, social gatherings and more.

Redemption Through Adventure

 

Professional skier, Hadley Hammer, details her unlikely entry into the pro-skier world at the age of 25, when she was catapulted to the top of the Freeride World Tour. However, rather than being an overnight success story, Hammer’s talk will look at how the limitations we place on ourselves can hold us back the most, and how overcoming those obstacles can lead to amazing results. It will also cover the recent loss of boyfriend David Lama, and how the mountain community and spending time outdoors helped her along in the grieving process.
