Tailgate Talk with Alenka Vrecek - 6/20/2023

This year, the Community Book Initiative will culminate with a Tailgate Talk and subsequent book signing from Alenka Vrecek, as she introduces her new book, She Rides. In her book, Alenka documents her experience of mountain biking the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico as a means of healing, and processing what she was experiencing in her life; a dream written down years ago in her journal that came to fruition as a response to hardship.

The event is free to the community and all ages are encouraged to attend! Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm. You can also enjoy dinner with the show, thanks to our neighbors at the Mediterranean Cafe! Grab your food to-go and bring it back to eat at the event. All beverage proceeds, as well as 20% of the proceeds from the Mediterranean Cafe, will benefit the local non-profit, Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe.

This will be the start of Alenka's book tour, and will be a particularly special send off from her Tahoe community. Her book is currently available for presale on Alpenglow Sports' website, HERE.

Tailgate Talk with Footprints Running - 6/21/2023

Join us and our friends at the non-profit Footprints Running, on Wednesday, June 21st at 6:30pm, for an in-store Tailgate Talk focusing on the effects of climate change on the Western States course. Let's gather as a community prior to one of the most historic 100-mile trail races in the area to talk about how we can best protect the environments that we recreate on! Food will be provided by Mediterranean Cafe, and there will be beer, wine, and NA drink options available.

Through this special presentation you will have the opportunity to hear from Dakota, the Executive Director of Footprints Running, regarding his work as an activist in the outdoor industry and how that developed into him creating Footprints Running, as well as, watch a short film about one the non-profit's most recent projects involving a group of trail runners who take collective action to address climate issues.

Then, Dr. Brianna Pagan will present the interactive map she created in order to show the effects of climate change on the Western States course and the consequent changes being observed in the area. Following that, you will be introduced to other local non-profits, such as the Sierra Nevada Alliance, working to combat these issues so that you can get involved!
